Different type of Rudist (Hippurites ) are recognized in the carbonates of cretaceous age, in kurdistan region, The first group are khun and Kummel .1939, who identified several Rudist genera from Aqra formation. after that several authors like Henson , 1948, 1950, Wetzel 1956, Bellen et al 1959 recorded more than five species of ruidst in Aqra formation and upper part of Tanjero formation.

Its worthy to mention that rudist from Mishrif formation is considered as one of the very important from oil production in south of iraq. On the westren part of iraq, Tayrat and Harath formation also contain rudist of specific paleo-ecological setting. All those point to important thing m whenever there is rudits they acts as important reservoir, with good to excellent oil production.Accordingly , what make those fossils play important role in the generation of effective porosity and permeable cretaceous reservoir in iraq and kurdistan region. in the attached file two articles about rudist bearing formations.
