I have noticed in the literature that some groups press their composite films, usually after drying them. This doesn't appear to be consistently done, or at least not consistently reported. Also, different groups use different pressures and different lengths of time for their pressing procedure. I have a few questions with regards to this:
1. What is the importance of the pressing process? Is it enhancing electrical contact between the active material and the carbon additive?
2. How does one choose an appropriate pressure to press the electrodes with and for how long should the pressing take place?
3. Are there any good sources where authors give very detailed descriptions and explanations for composite electrode preparation?

Also, what is the best pressing method? I've seen people state the use of a "roll pressing machine" but often they do not say how the pressing was actually done. Could you just use a pellet press to press your electrodes?
Pressing of ingredients of composite electrode not only improves electrical contact but also improves their adhesiveness. The pressing parameters like pressure, time of pressing etc to be optimized from conductance and chemical stability tests. Obviously , pressing should not be too high to destroy the porous nature of the electrode.
