In all our seawater samples taken from 1 km (approx) from beach showing TOC between 4 to 7 mg/L. Would like to know how much this TOC will impact on fouling/biofouling of desalination membrane. Any references on this is much appreciated.
Thanks Vit Mateju for your input. I think the complex humic compounds play a big role in membrane fouling. Need to know how much percentage and type of compounds present in low TOC that impact the membrane fouling in RO desalination systems.
The TOC, but particularly the AOC, is the main problem to the biofouling in reverse osmosis systems. If you do not measure AOC but only AOC will be hard to correlate the quantity VS the degree of fouling associated. If you are having problems perhaps is because your pretreatment needs to be improved. I share you two references one industrial and one from research : https://www.waterworld.com/technologies/article/16192222/study-examines-impact-of-desalination-pretreatment-on-organic-matter
