Research's are regarded standard with more the way it get published in higher Science Citation indexed (SCI) journal. Is higher SCI index associated with real development of society or is it just for a acadmic and research self
I just find my self some time doing research is in isolated work which just get publish in journal but not at all implemented at site or used by people. It is great challenges for the researcher to make their research properly used or implemented.
It seems, you are raising a question on the Impact Factor of a journal. Science Citation Index is a different thing. Would you explain a bit more elaborately?
Not about impact factor but whether impact factor has any relation with societal impact means society development and implementation of that research. or it is just a score for paper?
I have understood your point now only. In my eyes, the answer is: no, it does not have any impact. A great discovery may be published in a journal with a low impact factor. On the other hand, just because a journal concerned has a high impact factor, not every article published therein has to be important so as to have an impact on the society.
Along time, what was designed to help researchers to discriminate among the over increasing amounts of papers published, became an important part and a driving force of the financial side of the scientific publishing economy.
Since years, highly quoted journals are regarded by publishers as very profitable, and these publishers are seen as very profitable investment opportunities on stocks markets.
Today the financial pressure on universities and research organisms for scientific journals subscriptions become so strong, that even famous universities in highly developed and rich countries are very concerned with that issue which destabilized research.
To end on a more positive note, that issue born with the invention of impact factor, is also at the origin of the Open Access movement among the scientific community.
So yes, I believe SCI impact factor has an influence on the society.
