Solar panel efficiency: what you need to know
Simply , solar panel efficiency (expressed as a percentage) quantifies a solar panel’s ability to convert sunlight into electricity. Given the same amount of sunlight shining for the same duration of time on two solar panels with different efficiency ratings, the more efficient panel will produce more electricity than the less efficient panel.

Chikate and Sadawarte (2015) revealed that solar panel as a technology usually has conversion efficiency of 6% - 20 % in commercial use. Environment Canada (2012) stated that efficiency of mono-crystalline silicon PV module range between 14% and 20%.

The efficiency of commercial photovoltaic cells are around 20-25% max. Lately some in-lab experiments have produced solar cells with efficiency up to 45%, potentially the most efficient ever.

Dear Sir
U can get efficiency more than 70% through converting the incident solar Radiation to the electrical and heat energy by using PV/ Thermal solar panel which it's application very important to treat the two peaks load in winter and summer

Naseer K. Kasim , Ameer L.Saleh , That is interesting, definitely increase in efficiency by using both PV and thermal systems. Also I remember having seen some studies indicating that the PV are more efficient in cold climates.

sure PV technology are more efficient in cold climate, but in most cold climate the solar insolation does not have high values like Europe which reach about 1000kWh/m2 annualy but in our region (MENA, middle East and North Africa) reach more than 2000kWh/m2 , therefore the total energy yield in our region will be higher than the cold regions.

The new trend in the world to increase the efficiency of the PV technology is going towards the concentrated PV by using multijunction solar cell (tandom solar cell) by using GaAs material, which its efficiency exceeds than 40%
The solar cell's maximum efficiency is about 20-25% on today market.
I agree with Naseer K. Kasim , also 15 years ago, the Entech solar concentrators, using Fresnel lens to collect and focus sunlight at 8X concentration onto high-efficiency multi-junction photovoltaic cells, reached 30% net solar-to-electric conversion with over 180 W/kg specific power at a reduced cost compared to conventional PV arrays.
Dear Ameer L.Saleh , the efficiency of solar cell is highly dependent on the type of solar cell. Please find attached the highest efficiencies achieved by different types of photovoltaic cells.
