I believe that the highest point of the person reaches perfection in the confessional. The main confession is yet to come (in another life).
From the point of view of the mountain peaks, which, for example, loved and understood the great artist Roerich. The highest peak of about 5.5 thousand meters. But as in life, there were many low peaks to conquer that was much more difficult than the highest mountain peaks.
The highest point in my life was the birth of my two sunny children: Theresa (8-year-old) and Silas (5-year-old). Image - Silas after baking of Christmas cookies...
Maybe there is no "highest peak" to get to see the smile of someone who loves you. Congratulations and thanks for sharing this image full of light with me (with us).
I raised the question, actually, from a geographical point of view because I live on the island of Tenerife, one of the Canary Islands (Spain) where the highest mountain in the country is. 've climbed it. They are just 3718 mt but I climbed 2 times, the last recently, and it's a wonderful feeling. From a personal point of view, I think my great achievement is to keep going when everything stopped me. It was the moment I learned that in this life, sooner or later, we must be brave and face our true desires / fears / challenges.
Your answer is wonderful: congratulations on many achievements ....I guess none was easy, but there was the wonder of life: in reach despite its apparent difficulty.
Dear Montserrat Hernández-López, Thank you question…
It is hard to respond to your question, because in majorities of case person could easily over estimate his activity… For this only honest outsider who has the necessary knowledge in the field can give could critics about analysed persons’ activities…
(Personal point) I have had lot intuitional moment in my life… only the outwork (1993-1995) of the ideal meaning in a book published 1995… I have had luck to write down basics of a philosophical system (objective ideology)… which solved contradiction between religion and science… with a religion belief was able to give very simple explanation of life apparition… another explanation cause of Homan becomes… (1)… The award gotten was loosing my job after 3 months… (2)… (3)
(professional point)… with making my thesis of MSC… where have resolved differentiation of two type riolites (Badenian and Cr sup-Paleocen)… (4)I have had developed my own method of interpretation of geological structure
P.S.
(1) existing a theory of our World, solar system formation but is very wrong because its formulation was influenced by Big Bank Theory, Newtonian-Einstein Theory of gravity, global tectonics… Now with escaping from the mentioned theory… I believe something like with Steady State theory… Our planets was formed in different time… in case of gas giant formation I do not exclude formation with accretion, but in case of rocky planets formation accept formation with Sun Eruption… rocky planet alteration forming Ceres like dwarf planets and steroidal ring (this type of formation does not permitted by gravity theory of Einstein-Newton...
(2) With the Ideal explanations of book can be immediately understand, why was created Deash (terroristic Islamic ideology)… and where will progress if not will be stopped (see the communistic ideology apparition and its effect onto society).
(3) Lot of professionals have to share “accepted scince” if them want to remain in their position…
(4) I have had developed my own method of interpretation of geological structure but I did not have occasion of its practical verification…
Our life is challenge ,we live in competitive world.Ideas comes to our mind every day but we remain realistic in order that it should not come in a way of our progressive action of life.
Our life cannot become a measuring tape as it has a flows of ideas from the within & outside .In the line with a knowledge understanding ,social background & our achievement for our life action we are placing our footsteps on our life career & development .
As we all know that our life is mixtures of joy & tears & for tears we cannot afford to sit silently by placing our hands on our head .We have to carry our march till the aim which we have planted for our life for the achievement & in this line it is not possible for us to decides the highest point for the END of our life .
I think I am in half of life but I get many good human beings around me in my personal life, profesional life, RG, FB, TWITTER, LINKEDIN which encourage me to be a good human being and I think when I help someone or somebody I feel to get my highest point. Cheers..
Although there were high points in my life such as (when one of my PhD supervisors described my work as excellent in a written statement & when an ex-dean of the faculty of science brought an important visitor to tell him that I was the best lecturer in the faculty) but I think that the highest point has yet to come because I did not reach it so far. I don't want it to be a title or a high post or any earthly gain that many dream about… I want it to be more sublime than that: (It is God's pleasure; I just wish that I can feel "in this life" that I have pleased HIM).
Congratulations on this long and successful personal and academic life, dear László- Attila.
I think you do not need to climb any mountain feel you've reached the top.
If I like belonging to RG is the extraordinary people you know. It is assumed that all are / will be excellent researchers / teachers, but the kindness and generosity of the majority, when answering questions of this type, indicate that as people are also excellent.
This life is a continuum that does not stop moving. It is a function that has no maximum nor a set interval for our lives. The question was meant to be somewhat shallow, but I greatly appreciate the depth you've given it.
Says a lot about someone having lived special moments like the ones you mention, you feel your peak is yet to come. Perhaps that is the way to move forward. Thank you for your reflection.
Thank you very much for your comprehensive response. The truth is that my intention in this question is to enable us to realize that we have all reached a peak.
A few years back I was Minister of Culture of my country and it was a great challenge to be useful to people and activities related to culture, shape public policy on the arts, get money for that, etc. I learned a lot there and gave a lot to that job. Then I came back to teaching and doing research, and realized that I belong in the University. Coming back to teaching and studying is my "highest point" in life up to now. Good question. I thoroughly enjoy most what I do, so I had not thought of this until you asked, Monserrat. Im a rather "happy" person. Soy una optimista militante. :-)
I was for many years a Benito Pérez Galdós scholar and have visited Islas Canarias a few times. Beautiful place and very nice people. I have a few friends there. My best!
Following Lawrence, geographical: 15,807 ft (4,818 m), Ticlio, Peru. That was by driving, then I climbed up snow-ice covered slope for about 100 m (real or imaginary until the very peak) with ice-axe and crampons.
Strange or foolish, I still look forward for the highest.
If you ask me about my past:
In Life, my first Catholic Confession as a young man made me happiest and liberating experience in the sense of 'veritas liberabit vos'. In professional life...well, I would rather skip. I am still looking forward because it is like daily bread, you know?
I feel I am still at half way. I am still in the process of gettting there, may be in the next decade or the one after? I will keep trying perhaps till I die.
I'm excited to see that my question has made you happy and you know it, once again, how lucky you are. The truth is that I like to ask specific questions about my specialty, but I love the questions that we all make an emotion, an idea, a help to others.
I am delighted also to know the Canary Islands. You'll understand when I tell you that I've noticed, over time, I can not live in a better place.
Thank you very much for your positivity! So glad to start the day.
The focus of my question, if I'm honest, it was geographical, but I sensed that not everyone likes that of crampons, and others ... thanks for your answer, I think it will encourage others to climbing enthusiasts put in an appearance... ... and as for the professional side, I understand perfectly ;)
The truth is that your answer was excited strongly. Not only for those memories of youth who have generously wished to share with me / us, but because it has reminded me that perhaps another high point in everyone's life is to accept the loss of important people in our life as inveitable and having to follow ahead. Thank you very much for this reflection that you've caused me and many others who can read you.
Dear Monserrat, my country, Puerto Rico, is a Caribbean island of special beauty. Many of our people actually came from Islas Canarias, a splendid archipelago, during the 19th century. According to Spanish philosopher Maria Zambrano, islands are the place everybody wants to live because they are land embraced by the sea. Tenerife is also of outstanding beauty. Let's love our islands more and more each day. Enjoy your island as I enjoy mine.
Right now, I am sipping a cup of Puerto Rican coffee, strong and aromatic, and watching sunrise. Have a happy day!!!
Your question is very interesting and full of philosophical aspects. I have read some comments to your post to realize the problem. I agree with Martin that our children constitute one of the highest point of our life. I am really influenced by your reflection about your geographical point of view. I partly envy your beautiful place of residence. I live on the plain in the center of Poland. My laboratory is on the 7th floor and because of damage of lift I have to reach my “highest geographical point” every day during last week. I have to admit that I have also a nice view of my city from this floor.
You made me laugh when you say every day you scale to that "highest point" or seventh floor ... but as you say, also from there you can have wonderful views. It all depends on how you look, right?
I enjoy that I could make you laugh. I agree with you that my wonderful view depends on my state of mood. When I am in good mood I try to see the positive aspects from my windows. On the other side some colleagues claim that perspective from my floor is pretty interesting. I have to add that my building is close to the center of city which is rather old and low.
By the way the problem with the lift is quite irritating for me when I hurry for classes and porter argues that elevator is still under repairing.
Highest point! Don't know it has come yet or will come later! There are many high points. Some are:
Career wise when I became a lecturer in a prestigious College - a childhood dream. Daily when interacting with the students and being able to help them, learn from them, and so on....
Personally - having a very good and understanding person as my husband. Having a loving son.
Climbing the 'Qutub Minar' during childhood and looking down from the height.
No, it is not easy. Because there is no single definition. Moreover, I think that is a concept with so many meanings as people. So, if you feel that you found it ... my most sincere congratulations.
The highest peak in every Human's life there comes a time when a man is able to overcome the baser feelings (jealousy, greed, pride ...). These peaks in our lives of modern people poorly distinguishable.
I like the way you frame this question. Especially when you specify it with 'professional point of view, personal, or even geographical'.
'I was climbing up one of the top mountains in NZ recently and upon reaching the top stared down to see many objects in almost micro-scale. That is how far/higher I was from the ground level and suddenly had a feeling what if I drop off the cliff edge as it was perilously close to the edge and very likely to happen there in. The thought stream engulfed with somewhat 'strange' feelings (all the research works would be mixed in to out of space in perhaps micro-scale if not nano-scale).
After a few minutes of that thought stream my feet had taken me down to the ground level and not to mention the happiness of being there down safely and spend a few more time in research'.
I suppose the mental happiness at momentary incidents can have a huge impact in life which can sometimes outdo the highest points in academia.
Reading you, Vladimir, I think you're right. Only when we are freed from the feelings that bind and more weak, we can confront and reach their true heights.
I also think, like you, that is some distance (geographic, academic, or personal) when they really understand the dimension of reality, and not always, the closer greater control problem.
Low points in one's life can possibly be its high points. Depending on how these are reflected emotionally. Image: Reflection - water channel in the park Oberschleißheim (Germany) on 27 January 2016.
That is a difficult question, because the verb is in present tense. It's hard to know when you get the highest point, because maybe tomorrow you can break another wall and get higher, even if you did not plan it.
In my case, I GOT the highest point when doctor told I was cancer free. That was 7 years ago, because that simple phrase put me in a position of work even harder because I don't know when another disease can get back, so I wan to have time to do all the things I wish in life. That includes personal, professional. geographical...
A difficult question for each of us! Thus, anyone can ask: Why? Before all people are born, it has a vital cycle to that moment where dies. It is that I have to declare for yesterday than I was this that I was and I had these highest points and low; declare the present, I am what I am I have highest points and low and will declare tomorrow that will be the one that would be relevant points higher with the lower ...
During this life cycle, which we mentioned above, one has moments of unhappy or happy, with few points higher and some other lower, ranging as human creature with his/her health, education, professionalism, raising a family, children, positioning biogeographic, time, career work the other.
So should we correct position, where it was required ... where, when and for what I had, I ..., giving points higher or lower, the latter do not like ...
I'm wondering if "steal" the image .... No ... just kidding!
It is an image very beautiful and I love that you have chosen my humble question to share it with friends RG. You're right: in most cases, get to the bottom then helps you climb to the top, because one of the perspectives is only the reflection of the other.
I'm glad to see that my question, which was originally going to be limited to the geographical, has evolved so much with their answers is becoming one of my "high points" of my career as a generator of questions RG...Seriously, thank you very much for your contributions so high.
My parents, two sons, students, friends, the staff of two Universities, the peers in the international conferences around the world, the public at the festivals and concerts,RG-s.
I've written anything before, but the thought of writing some more about this important question in the context of Our Own Life.
As you know and in Albania cover 45 years was communism system, with dictatorship, isolation, without religious faith, very poor, so my generation have had many top points (as well as low points of course), in comparison to the the Western European and American world and now, we are seeing lately.
In my experience, good decisions can end up in nice outcomes. First of all, the prerequisite for the good health. And next, reach the highest possible among the options at our reach. Academic achievements have led me to be considered at all, for any of the nice outcomes that have materialized. From being employable, I was able to live together with a family, in a safe neighborhood and see our children graduate and become both, architects. These developments have been the highest points.
Between my highest points of myself there are lot of, if I say they are in similar Is lot of others, with some exceptions, because he/she is an American people or ... and me, Albanian people, and at the same time that I have my family, my wife Vera and our children. Our son, Arvjen has finished the studies in Architecture, he is working and he is an independent, while our daughter, Arnisa, living yet together with us, and she is following her studies, in the first year of Master, in Architecture.
Excuse the delay in responding. Academic issues have kept me away from RG something, but I'm back.
It is an honor to see that for some of you, my question was important, or has generated some joke, or, as has been your case, it has meant that all the achievements of a lifetime are reviewed.
Thank you very much for sharing here with me / us your whole life story.
Is it too corny to say that the highest peaks or points reached whenever I see a student reflects on his face that understands a matter? Although sometimes that task costs as much as reaching the foot of the Chilean volcano Licancabur, almost 4000 metres above sea level, which is the place highest I've climbed.
As a child I dreamed to become a cosmonaut and fly to the unknown planets. Probably, it was the highest point in the landscape of my dreams. In those years, everything seemed possible. I couldn't see "Star Wars" and so on, so I was very inspired with the sincere, but naive, romantic paintings by the cosmonauts Leonov (the first man who walked in space) and Sokolov. Their universe is friendly for humans.
