I was conducting furnace testing (Carbolite ELF 11/6b) on a carbon epoxy composite in order to find fibre volume fraction. I was recently working on the thermodynamics of the process. Obviously in an isothermal process there is no heat transfer as the temperature is kept constant, unless there is heat release somewhere so that the heat in and out are equal and balance is maintained. I was wondering how would I quantify the power/heat required to keep the constant, predefined temperature in the furnace, which is delivered to the sample to cause its decomposition? Is that related to the holding power which for the equipment is given to be 900W and if so is it different for different temperatures?
