I am no expert in the methodology of interviews. But I will think common sensically. Since, as I understand it, the interviews are recorded, readers can be referred to access them as genuine data for reference in a separate audio file. Now, if the study includes showing the linguistic features of the speech of the interviewees, there is no escape from showing the latent structure of Arabic, which includes Latinized transliteration (line 1), morphological gloss (line 2), literal meaning in the source language (line 3) between simple inverted commas, and pragmatic meaning in the language of the study (line 4). However, if the study is simply thematic not involving linguistic bias, therefore, I should think, the transliteration of the data will be time-consuming and self-defeating. And translation into English can be directly done from audio recording.

To answer your friend's question, it is highly recommended that the interviews which were conducted in Arabic are to be transcribed verbatimly into Arabic as these need be verified by the interviewees/respondents themselves as part of data verification process called 'member-check'. Then, your translation of their transcribed Arabic responses into English must be verified by Arabic -English experts via inter-rater consensus. This will be highly necessary as a qualitative researcher does not want to miss out on any opportunity to gain insights into rich data. The potential insights or findings might be diluted, distorted or lost due to poor translation.

As a translator, you'll convert written material from one or more 'source languages' into the 'target language', making sure that the translated version conveys the meaning of the original as clearly as possible. The target language is normally your mother tongue.

Whether to translate or not depends on how you approach your texts (i.e. , interviews). If your objective is related to the linguistic features and characteristics realised in the text, translation needs a detailed account of transcription, morpheme-glosses, and semantic or thematic representation, along with the identification of the specific issues you are after. If the objective is a matter of looking at what meanings or concepts are expressed, a thematic or semantic translation will do the job. Better still in the two ways is to add a link to acceds tge audio files of the interviews.

I would not recommend the online translations or transcribing facilities. It is better to transcribe some samples
