What is the future of writing? Research papers and books? Video content is getting popular, any possibility of having Peer Reviewed Video Journals/books?
It seems to me that the printed word is still very strong. From the preservation point of view, the printed word is the strongest. There are ways to preserve digital materials, but there is no experience on how this preservation could hold for centuries.
I think it will be hard to have video Journals for some theoretical research in Engineering and mathematics.
we can't rule out the possibility of video journals in future though. Although poetry have progressed to spoken words but that didn't take written poetry out of fashion.
My conclusion is this, we can expect videos journals in the future but i don't think written research articles will ever go into extinction.
Olusola Bamisile Avishag Gordon Thank you so much for sharing your valuable feedback. Avishag Gordon I agree with the view point that the printed word is strong because of preservation option, but the same time, it has distribution and availability limitations. Olusola Bamisile Thank you, I also think so, written research articles going extinctions will more centuries. However, I think, in future there will be video journals. Thank you so much again. Looking forward for more experts feedback. Please do share with me your more insights. I would love to hear more from you, as I want to write about this topic.
Youtube is 2nd biggest search engine similarly facebook and Instagram are promoting to publish more video contents. Therefore, the future trends will be more on towards the video and graphical contents.
I have strong feeling that there will be video hosting journals/platforms in future.
Many research shows that Gen Alpha (Birth 2013 onwards) are adopting the learning more on graphical contents rather reading.
Which after 30 years will bring the demand of video journals.
Muhammad Farooq & Faisal Khalil I agree with importance of video contents but same time I'm agree with Avishag Gordon that printed work has its own importance. Videos are also playing its role in our daily life but can not be substitute of books & papers Muhammad Farooq Faisal Khalil Olusola Bamisile
it seems clear that the future of the book isn't purely digital, and that will be an important user interface via print-on-demand, many genres of books are rapidly migrating to digital form.
Dmytro Leshchenko Thank you sir for your feedback. I think current video technology does not provide, topic search option or text search option or indexing (For example in a hard copy we can go directly to desired heading or chapter, soft copy made it further easy, we can even search the sentences or words).
I hope in future, in video technology we will be able to go to the exact place/timing of the video where author talked about something.
Then next thing will be citing the vlogs or video articles. It can take time but as Bahtilla Marinette said the visual learners will adapt it first and then rest will follow and it will take time
