where are we heading when it comes to autoethnographic research? with ethnography being very well accepted in the academic circles and autoethnography slowly but surely picking up steam since the last two decades, what are your opinions of the future of autoethnographic research in social sciences.
Why on earth do you have to denigrate quantitative research? I think you doth protest too much! Do you really want invalid and unreliable results? Think of that the next time you want to get get treated by a physician.
And to be clear, I am not arguing against qualitative methods.
Reliability and validity are the foundations of good quantitative research. They are not shackles. Mayukh Dewan There is no need to knock down quantitative research principles. Learn to live and let live.

I think it is important for the autoethnographer to delve into variables that might influence his/her perspective, such as race, gender, economic background, and how those variables relate to sympathy with the community being studied.
You are right that autoethnography is becoming more accepted and used throughout the world. For example, in Kazakhstan last year, I led a student in her thesis study using autoethnography--the very first thesis using that research design in the country. Regarding the future of autoethnography, you might enjoy reading works by Ellis and Bochner as they Carolyn Ellis developed the practice itself and the two of them continually write about the practice in general. In fact, the whole "ethnography", considering that in the classical sense, in Malinowski's tradition, is the result of a personal and non-transferable "field research". Thus, in one way or another all ethnography is autoethnography, because it tells even indirectly and implicitly the empirical, theoretical, epistemological trajectory of the author. Thus, the future of autoethnography from this point of view is the same as that of ethnography as a form of dissemination of "lived" producing of knowledge.
