What is the explanation of having very high COD removal with high COD/Sulfate Ratio when the theoratical ratio is 0.67 or lower??

I can see in literature that very high COD removal is observed with high COD/SO4 ratio where theoretically only 0.67 or lower ratio should attain complete organic oxidation. I couldn't find a proper explanation of this. What can be the possible explanations of this case?
