I tried some etch reagents like Keller, weck and HF but I couldn't see the grain boundaries of Al matrix.
For grain boundaries in 3XXX, I would try Graff and Sargent etchant (84 ml water, 15.5 ml HNO3, 0.5 ml HF, 3 g CrO3).

Dear Robert
thanks. I will try it. but I want reagent for Al A390.
ABS = Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene PLA = Poly Lactic Acid these materials are used in 3D printer. the final part is combining of two materials that are mentioned before. I want to destroy PLA...

I studied some articles and in some images the color of Al2O3 particles in Al matrix composite is white but in my image of SEM ( with EDX) is gray. Can anyone explain the difference?

Al2O3 particles don't have wettability with molten Al. They float on the surface of the molten without any change in structure of particles.

I want to know that i can do heat treatment Al2O3 particles ( 900 deg for 2 hrs ) without inert gas ? because i don't have this instruments for inert gas in the furnace.
