It is very important that besides the standards for drinking water that usually have a lot of focus on pathogens and microorganism, to have a water without salts in order to avoid precipitates to be formed and create problems on equipments etc. It is also some requirements about oxygen level in order to avoid the growth of biofilms that can also disturb the process and functions of equipments. I am sure you can find lots of information about this on the literature.

The effect of water treatment on the performance of power plants can several features such as economical or technical. About technical effects of water treatment on the performances of power plants can be observed by reliability of the plant. This is explained by answers given by Dr. Nabeel and Dr Asit kumar. This technical effect is not independant on the cost and productivity if the plant. However, the new technologies used in power plants can reduce the cost and increase the productivity in a flexible system. Therefore, the adjsutment of cost, productivity and other variables is achieved by dynamic modeling and simulation of the entire system.
