5. The effects of protein energy malnutrition (PEM) on sperm
Dear Colleague, malnutrition can be of a quantitative and / or qualitative nature. In either case this can cause alterations of spermatogenesis. Even the current industrialization of production has led to a lack of certain substances, such as mioinositol, in foods that may be caused or due to impaired spermatogenesis Vittorio
As said, malnutrition could be of quantitative or qualitative nature. Is important the amount of microelements as Zinc and Selenium, that are positively related to fertility and specially sperm count.
the fertility of human is affected by concentration of many minerals in plasma and seminal plasma but the state of fertility in poor or under starvation states is not that affected!
I think that all studies concentrate on studying poor quality samples and compare it with good quality sample because the problem might be in spermatogensis rather than the mineral state.
Malnutrition caused by a lack of protein, energy and micronutrients, especially for long periods, leads to a decrease in sperm production as a result of the testicular hypertrophy.
