I would prefer to reformulate your question: What is the difference in knowledge between lay people and professional health care providers? In answering that it is natural to examine the time needed to acquire medical knowledge. The basics of medicine is learned  in about 6 years. To be a professional takes another 6 years. Most clinical patient-physician consultations have 15-30 (60) min at their disposal, and only a part of that time can be used for knowledge transfer (patients' knowledge acquisition). I think the discussion should sober up: Ask your physics friend to explain quantum theory to you in 60 min. Even if  she is a brilliant teacher and you a bright intensive listener there is no hope to overcome the knowledge barriere.

Thanks Carl. Let me clarify the question. A country like United Arab Emirates has on its soil more than 100 different nationalities living over there. For sure, healthcare providers come from different nationalities and backgrounds. The communication level between patients and healthcare providers are sometimes hindered due to this reason.

I still don't think translation is a major problem. There are many online and offline solutions to that. That problem drowns in the obstacles of knowledge transfer and - acquisition.
