I'm looking to calculate percent canopy cover using Landsat 8 imagery and the programs ERDAS Imagine and Arcmap. I will be clipping the imagery for either a National Forest boundary or HUC unit watersheds, but I can't find any literature out there that clearly explains how to do this without delving into complex modeling and etc. If anyone could help me out that would be great!
there are so many ways to perform this based on experience.
but simple way is go for ndvi and mask forest first.
then cut the fcc using this mask. run unsupervised classification giving 50 class or so on.
then based on swiping the classified out put on fcc fix the threshold of canopy class.
