Is it possible to detect the mental illness in children early? If this illness is discovered in early stage what are the chances of complete recovery? What are the major alarming signs in early age?
Here is an examply of early screening of children in Finland :
Int J Circumpolar Health. 2009 Sep;68(4):386-93.
Screening infants with social and emotional problems: a pilot study of the brief infant toddler social and emotional assessment (BITSEA) in Northern Finland.
Haapsamo H, Ebeling H, Soini H, Joskitt L, Larinen K, Penninkilampi-Kerola V, Carter A, Moilanen I.
They included in their research: Fifty infants (18 months of age) and evaluated them through 3 questionnaires: (1) the Brief Infant and Toddler Social and Emotional Assessment (BITSEA), (2) the Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) and (3) the MacArthur Communicative Development Inventories (MCDI).
They concluded: The BITSEA questionnaire identifies developmental problems in the early stages and screens infants' social-emotional competence
A critical overview on reliability and validity of diagnostic criteria for identifying and assessing mental health problems and mental disorders in early childhood is given in:

Anne Mette Skovgaard (www.researchgate.net/profile/Anne_Skovgaard/) wrote her thesis on "Mental health problems and psychopathology in infancy and early childhood".

The CBCL Dysregulation profile can be diagnosed from the age of 4 years and potentially represents a developmental profile of major psychopathology in early adulthood (Bellani et al. 2012). The results of De Caluwé et al. (2013) showed that children assigned to the CBCL-DP class are at risk for elevated scores on a wide range of DSM-5 personality pathology features, including higher scores on hostility, risk taking, deceitfulness, callousness, grandiosity, irresponsibility, impulsivity and manipulativeness.
