Forest science or forestry evolved from botany and named Dendrology or Xylology being dominated by trees or woods also grouped under forestry or higher plant taxonomy. Many literature put these terminology interchangeably but as I know plant taxonomy is general mainly with certain classification basis mainly flowers which is plant classification but dendrology with specific to trees so not also forestry as such. Dendrology is part of botany or forestry where we study the different aspects of trees from classification, ecology, cultivation to utilisation OR Dendrology is just to know how to identify the trees or woods with help of plant taxonomy, other morphological, anatomic features. Then what will Wood anatomy and Wood Science do?? Please share your views.

Sir according to my view, dendrology is actually limited to taxonomy of trees but may also include shrubs and woody vines based on the morphological characters rather than anatomical. Xylology is a very broad term it includes wood anatomy, wood science, everything about wood. Wood Anatomy and simply wood science may be the part of Xylology whereas Wood Science and Technology is a applied science of wood for industrial or efficient utilization point of view. Because I have seen the course content of Forest xylology in Mendel university in Brno of Czechoslovakia . It mean Xylology includes anything scientifically about wood and it is basically part of forestry. Dendrology, you rightly said woody plants (mainly trees) taxonomy but its not plant taxonomy as such because bark, bud, blaze colour, canopy, sometimes phenological features and other morphological features may be some antomical features too are not part of plant taxonomy.
