There are many nations adopted forest farming in fringe ares of forests mainly by tribal people. Its not shifting cultivation but a permanent type of cultivation with trees the forest areas. In India can this type farming can be promoted to support organic production unlike wild collection form forests as NTFPs. What are the legal issues need to be addressed such kind of green initiatives in current forest policy and laws in India. It can be a a tool for livelihood options and poverty alleviation in tribal areas.
This has already been done in some states and can be done in others. The real issue is for the Forest Department to de-notify these areas as Forest Land and allow the people who are anyway cultivating since years to get the rights to cultivation.
Thanks. You are saying as per FRA, 2006 where tribal to given land rights for cultivation. I mean to say if like JFM we allow planation to be raised in forest lands PF and UF areas can same way can we allow tribals to grow some shade loving crops under the trees / forest infringe forest areas.
The inhabitants of the localities where there are protected areas of endangered forests. If it is a good alternative for the government to invest in reforestation and to pay the local inhabitants for planting care and protection.
