People know that the plasmonic-metal nanostructures have an enormous enhancement in both local electric field and absorption/scattering events under incident light irradiation with an appropriate frequency. When we want to compare the light absorption efficiency between these material with the traditional light-absorber, such as the semiconductors and the dye molecules which have a similar absorption spectrum, are there any quantitative ways to tell us the results? for example, use the effective cross-section of light absorption?
