I'm doing wind turbine analysis on NREL Phase VI turbine using ANSYS Fluent. So it is based on wind tunnel experiment inwhich blade RPM is fixed. But what about real case, in which rotation of the blade depend on the incoming velocity. It cant generate a fixed RPM. I understood gears might be used to control the rpm. Other than ABL, how turbine modelled with fixed RPM can be used to model real time turbine
you may have to simulate Fluid structure interaction problem coupling CFD with dynamics.
In my perspective,
The whole idea behind simulating a wind turbine in a wind tunnel at various TSRs (Tip speed ratios) are to understand the operational characteristics of the turbine. Its more like understanding the behavior of the turbine (aerodynamic efficiency) at that particular state ( TSR). Thus it is useful to plot Cp vs TSR.
Sir my question is in wind tunnel rpm is fixed. But real case how rpm is controlled
Normally, the electric generator's velocity will be controlled to meet frequency regulations (50 or 60 Hz), so that implies a fixed velocity for the turbine.
Real turbine can be modelled by simulation of blades in the range of rated rpm individually using moving reference frame method...Inn wind tunnel,you should take a timeline for each rpm (1 minute for a rpm) rpm throughout the range .By graphically plotting it,we can understand the influence of rpm in the flow and even can fix the range of rpm where the blade performs well
