Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI) is a new edition in Web of Science Core Collection. ESCI is a multidisciplinary Citation Index covering all areas of the scholarly literature of the sciences, social sciences, and arts & humanities. The selection process for ESCI is related to the process applied to Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE), Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI), and Arts & Humanities Citation Index (AHCI). Journals accepted for coverage in ESCI must be peer reviewed, follow ethical publishing practices, meet our technical requirements, have English language bibliographic information, and be recommended or requested by a scholarly audience of Web of Science users.
- ESCI is a multidisciplinary Citation Index covering all areas of Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE), Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI), and Arts & Humanities Citation Index (AHCI).
- SCIE covers more than 8,500 notable and significant journals, across 150 disciplines in areas such as agricultural, biological, and environmental sciences, engineering, technology, applied science, medical and life sciences, and physical and chemical sciences.
- SCI is a subset of SCIE, covering only the most highly cited and high impact factor Journals in each category.
In the field of computer science and engineering, I think SCI is the best quality.
The selection process is the first step in applying to other Web of Science indexes. These include the Science Citation Index (SCI), Social Science Citation Index (SSCI), and Arts and Humanities Citation Index (AHCI).
The Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI) launched in late 2015 as a new database within Web of Science. Around 3,000 journals were selected for coverage at launch, spanning the full range of subject areas.
