Three important differences between natural farming & organic farming:
1) Cost: Organic farming is more expensive than natural farming because it requires using large amounts of organic fertilizers & manure on the land bought from those who sell them.
2) Effort: Organic farming requires activities such as mixing of manures or compost, plowing, and tilting whereas there is no plowing or tilting or fertilizers in natural farming. "In natural farming, decomposition of organic matter by microbes & earthworms is encouraged right on the soil surface itself, which slowly releases nutrients into the soil".
3) Environmental impact: Organic farming has an effect on the surrounding environment while natural farming does not & it conforms with local biodiversity.
To combine the "goods" of both worlds, my approach is to apply little of organic farming & more of natural farming. Sometimes, the use of chemical fertilizers becomes necessary but overdoing it is better avoided.
In natural farming there no plowing, no tilting of soil and no fertilizers, and no weeding is done just the way it would be in natural ecosystems.
organic farming can be defined as: an integrated farming system that strives for sustainability, the enhancement of soil fertility and biological diversity whilst, with rare exceptions, prohibiting synthetic pesticides, antibiotics, synthetic fertilizers, genetically modified organisms, and growth hormones.
Organic farming is a system of farming which is dependent entirely on organic sources for crop nutrition and crop husbandry, while natural farming refers to farming with nature and without chemicals.
The principal differences between organic farming and natural farming are as follows:
In organic farming, organic fertilizers and manures like compost, vermi-compost, manure etc. are used and added to soils from external sources, while in natural farming, neither chemical nor organic fertilizers are added to the soils.
Organic farming needs basic agricultural practices like ploughing, mixing of manures, weeding etc. to be performed, while natural farming don't needs such agricultural practices.
Organic farming is expensive due to the requirement of bulk manures, while natural farming is an extremely low-cost farming method, completely molding with local biodiversity.
I personally believe that organic agriculture has some differences with conservation agriculture. First of all, in organic agriculture everything is natural and organic such as methods keeping the soil moisture, controlling pests and weeds population, increasing the soil fertility even tools farmers use as a cultivation practices equipment. In fact, the exact definition for organic agriculture is a kind of agriculture in which farmers doing by means of traditional ways mixing with new science to produce healthy agricultural products. But, in conservation agriculture more rely is on keeping the soil moisture especially in dry lands area .In fact, the main purpose in conservation agriculture is having less water loss, less soil erosion, saving the property of soil, and increasing the productivity of plants. Nevertheless, both kind of agriculture have some same benefits for environment and farm. In addition, the long term benefits of both is the main reason to promote them as a current agriculture. Secondly, in organic cropping systems farmers using less machinery vehicles. so, in some points they can save the cost of agricultural machinery. For instance, in organic cropping systems farmers never completely apply chemical fertilizers. In fact, the name of organic somehow is due to never using chemical fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides and other substances. But, in conservation agriculture nobody has mentioned about never using chemical substances in farm. Finally, having clean environment is a key issue in recent farming systems. For this reason, in the point of having no contamination both in underground and upper ground, organic cropping system is more confidence than conservation agriculture. By the way, it is possible to use organic cropping in small scales such as in the yard garden, backyard garden and so on.
In any farming, seed is prime requirement and producing or purchasing requisite seed involves some cost. Even one follows minimum tillage( to sow the seed) or soil disturbance ,some energy expenditure or equipment is required. Irrigation of crops involve energy and time. One can not ignore weeding in farming and some sort of mechanical weeding has to be undertaken. To save the crop and the economic produce, one need to control pests and diseases. Whatever may be the approach, one has to spend energy and labour which costs money. Similarly harvesting and threshing of ecomic produce involves energy and labour costs. So in any farming can not be really zero budget farming.Even primitive hunting and gathering require the human energy and labour .Natural forests, grass lands and pastures may not help us to produce the desired agriculral produce for human consumption. So it is desired to really define the zero budget natural farming ,its components, technolgies( permitted). Before going to farmers for educating them on zero budget farming, the experts should themselves be clear in their mind what to teach the farmers.
In organic farming, organic fertilizers and manures like compost, vermicompost, cow dung manure, etc. are used and added to farmlands from external sources. In natural farming, neither chemical nor organic fertilizers are added to the soil. In fact, no external fertilizers are added to soil or give to plants whatsoever.
In natural farming, decomposition of organic matter by microbes and earthworms is encouraged right on the soil surface itself, which gradually adds nutrition in the soil, over the period.
Organic farming still requires basic agro practices like plowing, tilting, mixing of manures, weeding, etc. to be performed.
In natural farming there no plowing, no tilting of soil and no fertilizers, and no weeding is done just the way it would be in natural ecosystems.
Organic farming is still expensive due to the requirement of bulk manures, and it has an ecological impact on surrounding environments; whereas, natural agriculture is an extremely low-cost farming method, completely molding with local biodiversity.
