Health and Healthcare are two words with distinct meanings. But in Information Technology (IT) context they are some times used synonymously. Is Healthcare Information Technology same with Health Information Technology? If so, what are the differences?
Health and Healthcare are two separate functional constructs. Health is a dynamic construct with is indicators, determinants, and dimensions. Healthcare is the process as well as one of the functional attributes of health with definite measurable accountability and reasonableness.
I think Health information Technology is different from healthcare information technology. This is due to the assumption that Health information technology concerns with the technology innovations and advancements in managing patients' information database. Patients' information databases entails all patients' details such as the demographic information. Whereas, Healthcare information technology concerns' with the technology innovations and advancement used during the delivery of the healthcare services e.g. the equipment and machineries which are used in the diagnostics stages such as the x-rays machines or equipment and machineries which are used in the treatment stages such as the Gama-knives machines for oncology patients.
