hi there.. I have 16s rRNA analysis data and i am trying to read about different indices to use for analysis.

I have10 dental biofilm samples; 5 periodontitis cases and 5 periodontally healthy controls.

firstly, I want to characterise and find out which bacteria are present in each group (cases vs controls), which is more abundant.

secondly, I want to compare between both the two groups ( cases vs controls), if there is difference between the species present and how is the difference?.

I have been reading around since I am new in this and decided to use:

species richness, Shannon entropy and Simpson indices for alpha diversity. while I am still confused in which indices would serve my purpose regarding beta diversity..

my questions are:

1-I am coming across different terms, what is the difference between Gini-Simpson index, Simpson concentration index, Simpson similarity index and Simpson diversity index.

2- can I have some suggestion on what indices would help me achieve my goal with regard to beta diversity? any websites or article would help?

thanks
