Is feed grade urea different from fertilizer grade urea ??? If so, what is the main difference between them ? Can we feed fertilizer grade urea to ruminants ?
Yes, feed grade Urea and Fertilizer Grade Urea are different although both has 46% N. The biuret content of feed grade urea is generally more (1.2%) than fertilizer grades (0.8%). The moisture content of feed grade urea is much less (0.5%) than fertilizer grades (1.2%). Feed grade urea produced from synthesis of natural gas and nitrogen found in the air while fertilizer grade is a natural or synthetic origins. Feed grade urea are solid white prill with an even round shape while fertilizer grades are white crystalline readily soluble in water. Fertilizers grade absorbs more moisture from the atmosphere than feed grade so has to kept in moisture proof container. Feed grade urea has less pH (7.6-7.8) than fertilizer grades (8.0). Feed grade can be used as additives for animal feed.
Dear Friends Urea classified as follows • Fertilizer grade • Feed grade • Technical grade SPECIFICATION OF FERTILIZER GRADE UREA (as per Indian Standard) 1. Total Nitrogen—46% 2. Moisture---1.0%(by wt.) 3. Biuret ---1.5% (by wt.) 4. Urea should be such that while passing through 2.8mm sieve and 1mm I.S.sieve It should retain on sieve more than 90% by wt. SPECIFICATION OF TECHNICAL GRADE UREA(as per Indian Standard) • NITROGEN-46% • MOISTURE-0.5% • BIURET------0.8% • FREE AMMONIA-0.015% OR 150 ppm. • AMMONIAM SALT (as NH3)-.01% • IRON-.0002% OR 2ppm • PH of 10% solution-7-9.0 • Melting point-131-1330C • “Urea should pass through 2.0mm I.S. sieve and not less than 80% by wt. of it should be retained on 0.85mm I.S. sieve.” FEED GRADE UREA Urea feed grade is a small diameter, spherical white solid. It is organic molecule (amide) containing 46% nitrogen in the form of amine groups. Detail find attached herewith.
