Recently, some authors (e.g. Moskowitz & Corstens, 2007) have proposed that psychotic symptoms such as auditory verbal hallucinations are neither dissociative phenomena nor psychotic phenomena. This proposal is interesting since, from a historical and clinical point of view, Bleuler's concept of schizophrenia was based on the concept of dissociation in the work of Janet. There are many overlapping points between the dissociative and psychotic symptoms. Likewise, many authors have proposed (e.g., Bartolomé Llopis, Henry Ey) that concepts such as self or consciousness are core variables in psychotic psychopathology.
