The concepts of coordination and integration are often used as if it was the same thing, e.g. "... a mechanism of coordination is any administrative tool for achieving integration among different units within an organization. Therefore, the terms "mechanisms of coordination" or "mechanisms of integration" will be used as synonyms" (Martinez & Jarillo (1989). The Evolution of Research on Coordination Mechanisms in Multinational Corporations, Journal of International Business Studies. Vol. 20. No. 3 (Autumn. 1989). pp. 489-514.; p. 490).
