The energy transfer is the transfer of energy from place to place. Since there is different forms of energy there are different transfer mechanisms for them.
For example HEAT is transferred by temperature gradient a process called diffusion. It is also transferred by convection with the movement of hot masses as well as radiation from the surface of the bodies as black body radiation.
Electrical energy is transferred with the electric current, that is by drift and diffusion in addition to displacement and induction. Also it is transferred by electromagnetic waves. Mechanical energy is transferred by movement.
It is so that that in some cases the movement of charges and masses or charged masses are engaged in the energy transfer process.
Electron transport and charge transport are invoked when concentration gradient of them exists and called diffusion current or an electric field is applied on them. In this case they move by drift or ballistic motion according to the medium in which they move. There is also the displacement current in which the there is no net flow of charges but only the change of the electric displacement with time.
