Usually, BAF is a biological aerated filter, and GAC granular activated carbon. So completely different systems - one is biological removal, the other adsorption.
if you meant BAC (biological activated carbon) then that is a GAC system operated with some air with the aim of encouraging biomass growth on the activated carbon to degrade some of the adsorbed organics.
