The Emerging Source journals (ESCI) are journals that are accepted to the Web of Science database on a trial basis, provided they comply with this database standard for a period of time. Scopus is another interdisciplinary database, more inclusive than the Web of Science, created by the publisher Elsevier's. JCR, (journal citation report) is part of the Web of Science database, and it analyzes journals by the impact factor, highly cited , and hot papers, and other journals' performance criteria.
The Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI) is a citation index produced since 2015 by Thomson Reuters, and now by Clarivate Analytics. According to the publisher, the index includes "peer-reviewed publications of regional importance and in emerging scientific fields".
The ESCI is accessible through the Web of Science, together with Science Citation Index Expanded, Social Sciences Citation Index, and Arts and Humanities Citation Index. Journals in the ESCI are not included in the Journal Citation Reports thus do not receive an impact factor, although they contribute citations to the calculation of other journals' impact factors.
Scopus is the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature – scientific journals, books and conference proceedings.
Journal Citation Reports (or JCR) is a product of Clarivate Analytics and is an authoritative resource for impact factor data. This database provides impact factors and rankings of many journals in the social and life sciences based on millions of citations.
The Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI) was launched in late 2015 by Clarivate Analytics (formerly Thomson Reuters) as a new database in Web of Science. The main aim of the ESCI is to ensure the important research works are visible in the Web of Science Core Collection even if it is not yet internationally recognized. These journals will not have an impact factor, but if they maintained their quality, ESCI journals may have chances to upgrade into the SCIE after yearly evaluation.
Scopus is Elsevier’s abstract and citation database launched in 2004. Scopus covers nearly 34,346 are peer-reviewed journals in top-level subject fields: life sciences, social sciences, physical sciences, and health sciences. It is the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature – scientific journals, books and conference proceedings. All SCOPUS journals are reviewed each year to ensure high-quality standards are maintained. Searches in Scopus also incorporate searches of patent databases. Scopus gives four types of quality measures for each title; those are h-Index, CiteScore, SJR (SCImago Journal Rank), and SNIP (Source Normalized Impact per Paper).
Journal Citation Reports (or JCR) is a product of Clarivate Analytics and is an authoritative resource for impact factor data. This database provides impact factors and rankings of many journals in the social and life sciences based on millions of citations.
Note: Actually, SCIE journals are top-class journals in their field however ESCI journals are just new and trying to perform well to get SCI ranking. (SCIE>ESCI>SCOPUS).
