In some books it is defined that both Convenience and Purposive Sampling is non random sampling hence used synonymously but in some links and pdf it is mentioned it is different.So can anyone please give a standard definition of Convenience and Purposive Sampling and clearcut difference with examples please with referenceS?
Actually i need the difference as a reviewer of a Psychiatric Journal asked for the difference i have to address it to the reviewer

Purposive or purposeful sampling is a form of non-random sampling that requires, at a minimum, establishing criteria for who will be included in the sample, i.e., stating who will meet your purposive. In contrast, convenience sampling is taking anyone who happens to be available. In practice, almost no one does convenience sampling because we nearly always have inclusion criteria.
The most widely cited source on purposive sampling is Michael Patton in his book, Qualitative Evaluation. If you Google Patton and purposive sampling you will find a number of sources that reprint his typology of purposive sampling. I have also attached a recent paper that develops its own typology which overlaps about 90% with Patton's version.

I think it would be more helpful if you described how you did your sampling, then the people here can give you some suggestions about how to reply to your reviewers.
Also, I think you might get more responses if edit your posting to include more tags that are directly related to qualitative research.
