We are trying to cross-link carboxymethylcellulose at temperatures less than 170 degrees Celsius and we really do not know if it will degrade at those temperature range. We would really appreciate your answers.
not sure about degradation of CMC but try to use genipin as cross-linking agent it can do your work at 50-80 degree C.
According to my information about CMC, CMC melts at 227 C but I don't certain from the degree of degradation.
Why don't you do TGA on CMC?? One of many ways to crosslink CMC is make concentrated solution and heat them up above the boiling of water. It needs to be done in the autoclave. Of course, there are many chemical crosslinkers. Gluteraldehyde could be useful.
