In the case of a pump with a flat head vs flow curve at low flow rates which is not its b.e.p. is it possible to reliably operate the pump in this area for short periods of time? I know it is not ideal or good for the pump to do this because of recirculation and possible damage, but is the flow rate from the pump even controllable based upon a steep system resistance curve and a nearly constant head discharge across this low flow rate region of the curve? To my understanding the pump will drop and surge in this area, basically flow hunting.
