Quantum dots are nanocrystal that have its eletronic properties controlled by the size and shape. These materials have electronic properties that lie between the properties of the bulk (extended solid) and of the molecule, were the excitons are confined in all three spatial dimensions.
The electronic properties are affected by quantum confinament of the excitons for example that can result is particles that absorb different wavelenght of light (different color) due its different size.
CdSe QD size can be easily estimated from HR-TEM and/or UV-vis data. There are papers published on this topic, starting with the synthesis and whole characterization. You can calculate the size from UV-vis data and confirm it by HR-TEM.
