For the SIOMMMS a vertebral fracture is a measured reduction in height of more than 4 mm considering the difference between the front and the back of vertebral body. This can be considered a reliable radiographic cutoff. However the most used classification is the Genant classification. (Genant H. et al J Bone Miner Res. 1993; 8:1137-42).
the definition of genant is based in his works and its accepted by other like nevitt, 1991; in my opinion that definition was accepted in a consensual work. Most recently chen 2006 and sugita 2005 employ a cuantitative metod to define vertebral compression fracture, in a intersting work orthuber 2008 propose a pentadimentional definition in his issue, personaly i think is good. I send to you the references. Maybe are useful for you.
