From academic point this can be calculated using the heating value of the fuel multiplied by the different values of efficiencies. What I need here is a thump rule or some experience values.
The graph attached shows data concerning energy generation and fuel consumption for 2 different small Diesel generators with nominal powers of 2 kW and 3,3 kW.
These data are results of laboratory tests for the Diesel generators supplying different loads, operating with Diesel with LHV of 10,550 kcal/kg (Diesel used in Brazil).
The average consumption measured is of approximately 0.47 L/kWh.
For bigger Diesel generators the efficiencies shall be much better than these.
