We wish to use rice agar medium instead of PDA to isolate rice probiotic bacteria. Is it possible to supplement potato by rice? If so, what is the composition? Wish to know exact composition of rice agar medium and protocol of preparation.
Potato dextrose agar has been a good general media for fungal and bacteria work.
For filimentous fungi the inclusion of dextrose at 10 to 20 grams gives good colony growth which greatly aids quick identification for the colony characteristics.
For Bacteria they can be favored in your preparation if you add the dextrose and use 3 grams of yeast extract for a vitamin and Nitrogen source.
Probiotics are usually screened for ability to suppress root pathogens, Pythium Fusarium and Rhizoctonia funge and in seedling growth responses and ability to solubilize Phosphorus from insoluble sources. Hope some of this might be useful.
