Here is a typical lesion in Rainbow trout fingerling in Coldwater fish farm. Disease was occurred in winter season while water temperature decreased to less 12 oC . A characteristic lesion was a pale white band encircling the body, often referred to as saddleback disease.
Would you please discuss about causative agent, prognosis, control and prevention of future outbreak?

Columnaris disease (caused by Flavobacterium columnare) , also known as saddleback disease could occur in 12 degrees, although it is more common in higher temperatures. It could be also cold water disease caused by Flavobacterium psychrophilum. I think you would get the best answer by culturing the bacteria from the lesion on Shieh medium (link to publication added), if possible to ensure is it Flavobacteria. Feed containing oxytetracycline should work for flavobacteria, unless antibiotic resistant strains have been developed.

Characteristic for this disease is that the outbreaks are related to stress (high temperature, low levels of dissolved oxygen and high levels of ammonia and organic load) and mortality of fish peak over the course of a few days. I think you would get the best answer by culturing the bacteria.
