I am taking over a project from a post-doc who is departing the lab at the end of the month. I've been instructed to move his samples to my boxes. I want to do this in a way that makes it easy to know what each item is (including sources, concentrations, etc.) while the post-doc is still here to answer questions.

What's the best way to do this? I was thinking to assign each tube a number and compile an excel document detailing the contents. If this is a good approach, what details would you recommend asking for?
