Cycling fot at least 10 Km a day, playing guitar and piano, singing songs of different musical styles, pizza, spaghetti, fresh fish, new and old friends who have something they want to communicate and coming from different parts of the world, sleeping deeply and the free time is finished!
I spend 2 afternoons and Saturday mornings on the golf course with my colleagues and friends for a little stakes game and friendly banter back and forth. That is my real leisure time, four to six hours of golf, communing with self, nature, and friends and battling the golf course. It clears and rejuvenates my mind along with the walk Huajiang prescribes.
Also I take a little time each day for as Sayed Zaheen and his mother agree is good for out body and power nap for abut 20 minuets after lunch. This works for me!!
Dear Sayed and dear Douglas, I think a power nap of about 15-25 min is very good for refreshing our body and minds. However, a longer nao can create problems in night sleep.
For some of us, what we do will depend on how large is the block of leisure time. I do some reading, email and planning in small blocks of leisure. In larger blocks, I clean up my apartment. My exercise is a commitment rather than a leisure, and although busy, I make time for this and people and things that really matter to me. You may like this link.
I do agree with @Miranda Yeoh, as in small blog of leisure time I go for RG and interact with our RG friends. and in bigger block of leisure time I do try to do other house hold projacts with wife and mother to pass some quality time and refresh our mind and soul. regards
Good points dear Miranda and dear Sarwan, I strongly believe that we should all spend as much time as we can with our family members because they are of primary importance for us.
The best use of leisure time is to be out for walk, fish and do some more activities which depends on weather and a season (swimming, gardening...). In this winter days, the most of my leisure time belongs to social networks!
For me the free time is a recreation. Free time for me is physical and mental relaxation with an impact of an inner satisfaction that allows me to strengthen me every day. To each his own time.
Dear All, the above chart (provided in the post of dear @ Ljubomir) reveals that more than 50% of leisure time is spent in watching TV (by Americans). I strongly believe that we all should cut TV time and get involve in other more beneficial and creative activities, i.e., walking, reading, sports, fishing, swimming, or even interacting friends at RG etc.
My job really consumes most of my energy (e.g. the effort paid in a lecture or practical for today's weaker students is double the effort I used to expend for similar lecture or practical in the 1980s with the accompanying factor of me becoming older). The little leisure time left is utilized by me in walking, some reading, internet especially visiting RG,viewing TV for short time, and little gardening.
Dear Demetris, Being 'disagree' is a vital part of any discussion. However, I firmly believe that the time spent on leisure activities will certainly increase my overall productivity because if, this is not the case, I will definitely not waste my time on walking, listening music, swimming...etc.
For me, the free time is cycling and enjoying in my hobby (collecting stamps). Collecting stamps keeps your mind active, increases your knowledge and relieves the stress of the day...

I use my leisure time reading books or playing with my pets or writing poems and stories. As far as the best way of spending leisure is concerned, it greatly depend on the nature of a person.
In leisure time one should relax, meeting people, family.listening good music and reading good classical literature.the work you want to do should be done in leisure time.sometime leisure time required for relaxed and thoughtless mind.one can utilize this time for better work, hobbies and those good things which you wanted to do in life but because of busy schedule one couldnot able to do that.
Our education system focuses primarily on preparing us for a life of work. But we may have to educate ourselves about how to spend our leisure if we are fully to enjoy its fruits. Philosophical reflection and empirical research suggest we do not use our leisure time as wisely or as well as we could. We engage in activities that do not bring us enjoyment and lasting satisfaction. Aristotle opined that the chief point of a liberal education should be to teach citizens how best to enjoy their leisure and the privileges and opportunities it offers.
The purpose of leisure is to enjoy, relax and have rest! The different ways exist to fulfil the leisure time. Photography is also one of my hobbies! Especially, I like to take photos of fish, different water spots...! It is wonderful when you find those photos in this winter times! I do share it here with you!
Dear @Brenda, I do think that for such persons who are with pain 24/7, leisure physical activity should be forbidden! Maybe some music could help? Reading sometimes...!? Music is a drug free way to reduce pain sometimes!
I think 'brisk walking' could be one of the best leisure activities because of its overall health benefits. But I consider 'TV watching' is one of the worst activities, except watching 'News'.
Friends, today is Sunday (some leisure). Besides worship, I cleaned up my home, and went out to buy enough fruits for several days. Here are some green but ripe mangoes, and mangosteens (the purple ones, full of antioxidants). I normally eat lots of local fruits.
What a good holiday Miranda, I like that. Some times I do the similar thing like you. Buy a vegetables and just walk along traditional market in Changlun or Cross the Thai Borders..
Really unwinding, stopping to continue with the hidden work in your brain. Read a good book, cook a tasty dinner, talk with friends. You will see, after relaxing your brain your working abilities also are relaxed.
Leisure is the moment where one can be oneself and do anything he/she wants to do without any pressure. Whatever one can do to relieve stress and clear one’s head will make the rest of the workday more productive.
Thanks Hengky and all, today was a good Sunday indeed. After being at home for 6 hours, I drove back to college, and managed to exercise on the track while watching a rugby game. And just now, we had our college celebration of Chinese New Year. (I just attach a pic, because my videos exceeded 20 MB.)
Dear Prof Ljubomir, it was a good celebration. I like the Drumming and the Fan dance. Some of us managed to remove all the idolatrous Chinese celebrations. It's back to a cultural event only. The country also benefits from preserving cultural practices. It's good for our tourism.
Dear all, here is Fan Dance at my friend's college; Chinese girls all over the world learn this from late childhood. (Perhaps Margherita, in Italy, also knows this dance.)
Very rightly said Dear Hanno, one should always be oneself, have faith in oneself and always express oneself. However, we play roles to fit into our surroundings/society; often we suppress our true nature out of situation/compulsions. Honesty is often said to be the best policy – while according to another thought this may be true at home, it does not necessarily follow as far as the work place is concerned.
Dear Ljubomir and all, I spent yesterday at FRIM (Forest Research Institute of Malaysia) and learned a lot of things about our own tropical plants and timbers, as well as the research, even how to 'catch illegal loggers'. It was a study visit, and a good use of the (near) end of the semester. But we had some leisure as well. You will all enjoy the pics; most are our timber seeds. They are 'winged', when they drop, they spin like a top....
During my free time (very few, actually) I enjoy making something totally different from usual working activities, that make us to use just brain and to stay indoor: I enjoy walking on the seaside or in the countryside as well as creating some artcrafts, painting and drawing.
I agree with Enzo that free time ends quite soon!!!
Reading, writing, dancing, communicating with positive people and working in the dacha in spring..Even seing of beuaty arouses pleasure and feeling of relax. My beauty- apple-tree
Somehow when I get some spare time, I spend it in reading good books, eternal classics, and literary articles, listening to good music, watching a short movie and interacting with friends on RG. I also spend time with family and take a nap after lunch particularly on weekends that provides me with new energy and vigour to work more efficiently.
Leisure- it's so elusive at times. Just as Enzo said, we do our duties for each day, exercise well and rest well, and there's no more leisure time. I managed a jog just now, interspersed with brisk walk.
Good post, dear Ljubomir. Leisure is a good name for shopping malls. I wonder how many are called 'Leisure Mall'. From mobile.
Enjoying leisure time is as important in life as work, love, spirituality, health, friendship and family. Leisure offers us change of pace, relaxation, renewed energy, healthy detachment, social bonding, learning opportunities, wonderful memories and a larger perspective.
By using leisure time well, we can be more productive and satisfied with our work.
To our proverb, "Goofy holiday tires worse than work"To B.A.W.Russell, "To be able to fill leisure intelligently is the last product of civilization, and at present very few people have reached this level" and "The time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time" http://www.giga-usa.com/quotes/authors/bertrand_arthur_russell_a003.htm During active leisure (for ex.watering the plants in the garden) a lot of ideas can cross in the mind. We remember the legends about I.Newton's apple, Archimedes' bath, or Periodical table by D.I.Mendeleev, which he created in his dream. A human being can concentrate well during or after physical activity or changing activity.
I think 'meditation' and 'listening to light music' could be the best things to be tried in our leisure time as these activities refresh our body and soul.
Meditation - it'll calm your mind/thoughts, control your actions thereby reduce illness in your body. Just minimum of (pure) 15 min per day is sufficient enough to keep you active throughout the day.
Together with a culture of work, there must be a culture of leisure as gratification. To put it another way: people who work must take the time to relax, to be with their families, to enjoy themselves, read, listen to music, play a sport. - Pope Francis

Nobel Laureate Gary Becker recently passed away (link below) elaborated a Theory of allocation of time in which people has to maximize the total utility coming from time spent considering not only activities which gain revenue but also those which benefit the public interest.
It seems therefore that Becker's theory does not entail the pure leisure time capable to give only personal non-monetary satisfactions such as those listed by Enzo.
On the contrary Niccolò Macchiavelli considered the most balanced example of life that of Lorenzo de Medici (the Magnifico) since he could join the care of the state and his personal pleasures (compare Sofri).
