Insect species and abundance counts will need to be recorded, therefore something that will not affect the insect body shape (for morphological identification). Traps will be left out for days at a time. Also obviously something that is easily set up and accessible at great heights.

I would suggest you first identify the foraging range of the bat that you are study, followed by a setting up of a Malaise Trap at the ground floor of the rainforest. Most of the Dipteran or flying insects will actually trap in the chamber filled with alcohol (as preservative). I believe the bats diet include those insects that is not flying around, perhaps a pitfall traps can be used too to observe the insects on the ground.

Im really agree with the other answer. But i think to use pitfall trap Will be better if we want to learn the insect diversity on the ground.
Hello! Several types of traps can be used depending on the behavior of the insect. Pitfall traps can be used for crawling organisms while sticky traps can be used for flying insects. You can also use Tullgren funnels for organisms that move away from heat and light sources. Different methods are usually combined for a more representative sample of the insects.
