I am studying how to concentrate an extract of algae obtained in an alkaline pre-treatment of red algae. The extract has a high conductivity (about 25 mS/cm) and we need to concentrate the organic fraction by removing the water but without increasing the salt content. The current idea is to test with UF and/or NF but going with the process at production scale can be difficult, as a large amount of preliminary filtration (sand filter, MF, etc) seems necessary.
Do you know of any other mature technology or combination of mature technologies that can achieve the goal?
Thanks Mms Guru. The idea is good in order to eliminate, for example, sodium chloride content (a very important problem of the extractwhen used as a fertilizer) but I hardly need to remove water from the extract. The most important factor to improve process profitability is to concentrate as much as possible the organic fraction in the procesed extract in order to reduce transport cost (very important for trading). That´s is the reason we are thinking on UF and NF
