NS-3 does not natively support Satcom. You will need to rely on third-party extensions. Not recommended.
MATLAB is suitable for link-level simulations.
NetSim is suitable for network-level (system-level) Satcom simulations.
I have found NetSim useful - GUI is easy to use, detailed RF measurements, and well-written documentation. Make it much easier to analyse protocol behaviour and validate results.
