I'm looking forward to know the circuit and devices used to do such measurement. regarding that a PZT element apparently is considered as a Current Source rather than a Voltage source. so I have heard that to have precise measurement I would need to use a circuit containing several components like mabye an op-amp.
I hope I understand your question well (I apologize in advance if you are referring to something totally different). Maybe too simplistic but to quantify the voltage generate from a piezoelectric element you can connect it to an oscilloscope. I worked mostly with piezo transducers that output a very small voltage so I first hook them up to an amplifier before sending it to the oscilloscope. Note: depending on specific applications some piezo require more complex signal conditioning circuits (you can usually buy them together with your piezo device for your particular application). Integrating under the voltage vs. time curve gives you energy. Good luck with your research!

Some piezoelectric elements present such a small admittance that when you use an oscilloscope or other device the admittance of the later becomes predominant. This can lead to erroneous estimates of the output energy when you measure the voltage across a resistor for example. The solution is to use an operational amplifier in order to isolate the measuring device from the circuit.
