Best and straight forward way is to do immunohistochemical (IHC) satins on both the metastatic and non-metastatic tissues, if a good antibody is available. Often times, the IHC stains are difficult quantify in case of slight difference in expression. Alternative way is to do RNA in situ hybridization. RNA in situ is technically challenging, and requires a bit o expertise to get good results.
