I spent a series of experiments with glycine and always got a mixture of metallic nickel, nickel oxide and alumina in various ratios. What is the best way to decrease amount of NiO without purging H2 or Ar?
I do not suppose purging is your problem, since it is very easy to oxidize Ni. I assume your reason behind glycine is to keep the pH neutral. However, even at neutral pH, the potentials have to be well below -0.7 V vs SHE per EMF-pH diagram for Ni (David Silverman, NACE Corrosion Vo. 37, No. 9, 1981). Although, you will face tough competition from HER at these voltages. I suppose you can follow: Cooper et al., Journal of Materials Science September 2006, Volume 41, Issue 17, pp 5608-5612 where he optimizes Raney Ni deposition on Titanium substrates.
