I have buccal swab samples from infected animals with blue tongue and want to extract RNA using Rneasy Mini Kit from Qiagen.. what is the best protocol?
Are the buccal swabs to detect RNA from a pathogen/bacteria or from the infected animal? The kit has specific protocols for what to do differently for samples from bacteria vs animal cells.
I am guessing you will want to soak the swab in the first buffer solution (the one with the beta-mercaptoethanol) and spin down to try and get the cells off of the swab. Or if the swabs are in a liquid "RNA later" solution, spin them in that solution and use the resulting pellet as the starting material.
