You might want to take a look at Paterva's Maltego. It is a high quality professional package which is excellent for assessing the cyber effectiveness of a company. It uses publicly available intelligence on the company, and analyses it to assess the quality of cyber readiness/defence in a company. It comes with a range of useful tools, including its own forensic tools. There is a community edition which is free, for both Windows, Linux and Mac. It is extremely comprehensive, capable and effective, but there is a learning curve to take into account. Not for the faint hearted. I attach a link for the download below.

Your question is a wise one. If the testing operating system is itself compromised the testing software (Pen/Social Engineering/ etc) could then be used on the install computer. Kali is my personal choice, but for reasons which may not be apparent.

First the ISO can be mounted and ran without it being written to. Also, you can reinstall it in a few minutes on a laptop or other system every so often to make sure it is current and unaffected.

Additionally, due to the nature of some operating systems (like those from Microsoft) to replicate vulnerabilities so easily through a network or exchange server I would clone a suspected compromised system or a system which would  be a potential target and run multiple products from your list.

Under NO circumstances would I use a product that installs on a client OS, unless it can be used as a standalone, self-booting product.

I would stay away from Paterva's Maltego which runs on Java, which has its own issues. It might be fine for a secondary analysis, but that is as far as I would use it in a live environment where it may also introduce issues.
