ITIL is a simple and practical starting point for most of the companies, whereas for companies that have to comply with Sarbanes-Oxley act, COBIT is the prime choice.

ITIL might be too complex for most small and midsize businesses. They should considered "ITIL small-scale Implementation" - intended for small organisation.

If we talk about IT governance COBIT is the most well-known framework created by ISACA. IT governance is an integral part of enterprise governance and consists of the leadership and organizational structures and process that ensure that the organization´s IT function sustains and extends the organizations strategies and objectives, IT Governance Institute. Due to only mid-sized organizations deal with IT governance.

In recent years, information technology management models in organizations have been enriched with advanced 4.0 industry data processing technologies, including cloud computing, Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, machine learning and more.
